In early 2019 I acquired a ‘new-old’ camera to use for wet-plate collodion photography (project here). Before jumping right into the ambrotype stuff however, I wanted to get my eye in with the new kit. The camera is a 1913 Kodak folding brownie 3, which originally shot either ambrotype plates or an obsolete 124mm film, but is now typically relegated to ‘shelf duty’ as a decoration. I bought the camera with the intent on shooting glass plates; but one of the fun things to do to test the camera is to shoot darkroom paper as a negative paper print. It is simple, and quite a bit more forgiving than shooting the glass plates right off the bat. Here are a few of the first test photos from the camera. It seems I still have to get my eye in for the focal range and depth of field, but I must admit I love the aesthetic of these photos
